Dozens Participate in Annual 'Walk for Recovery'

Lynchburg, VA - During the month of September, there's a national effort to bring awareness to addictions.

On Saturday, people all over the country walked as part of a National Recovery Month event. A group in Lynchburg took part in the 8th annual "Walk for Recovery." About 35 people came out to show their support.

A group called SAARA, Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery Alliance, put the walk together. They say their mission is to help others. One way to do that is through the walk for recovery.

"Everyone involved in SAARA is a person in recovery or a family member of a person in recovery and our mission is to help other people find recovery," said the group's director Sandy Kanehl.

The walk is also a fundraiser for the local SAARA Center for Recovery. Organizers say they've raised a few hundred dollars so far.
