Meth Makers Could Pay to Clean-Up Labs

Lynchburg, VA - The city of Lynchburg may soon be able to recoup the cost of cleaning up meth labs.

The general assembly recently passed legislation that lets cities go after convicted meth distributors to pay for the clean-up.

City council is expected to discuss the measure at Tuesday night's meeting.

Captain Ryan Zuidema says the last meth lab bust in Lynchburg was in April 2011. He says it cost the city around $3,000 to clean it up.

"Economic times are difficult. There's no reason the tax payers should have to pay for something that's caused by a criminal offense," he said.

The people must be convicted of meth manufacturing and only be billed for the actual costs incurred to clean up and repair the property.
