Fundraiser Held for Nathan Norman

Lynchburg, VA - The community is coming together again to help 5-year-old Nathan Norman. He's a Rustburg boy battling a rare form of brain cancer, who is also undergoing chemo for a tumor in his spine.

A few weeks ago Nathan told his parents that celebrating Christmas early would help him feel better.

So some family friends came up with a fundraiser that would give Nathan a chance to celebrate all the holidays at once. They celebrated the Fourth of July with fireworks and Christmas with live music and an appearance from Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

Organizers say a few dozen people came out to the New London Ruritan Club today to support Nathan.

"We expected a miracle for this project and we got a miracle out of this, that's what it's all about. It wows me, not only that people showed up but the way they helped," said event organizer Jessica Johnson.

"I mean it's incredible, to think that there's so many other kids out there with cancer and that Nathan has touched the hearts of so many people, I don't know how to explain it. It's just incredible," said Bobby Norman, Nathan's dad.

An Altavista church is hosting a fundraiser for Nathan later this month as well. It will be held Oct. 20 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Grit Ruritan and Community Center.
