Blacksburg - A Duke-Virginia Tech game over the past 10 or 15 years may not have been that big of a deal. That's not the case Saturday, not by a long shot.
This is a must win for the Hokies, who've lost two in a row, three of their last four and find themselves 3-and-3 on the season.
The defense is reeling, allowing 533 yards to Carolina, including Giovani Bernard's 262 on the ground, most ever allowed by Tech.
Couple that with a Duke team off to its best start since 1994 at 5-and-1 and you see why this game is so big for Virginia Tech.
Logan Thomas, CAREER-HIGH 354 YDS. PASSING SATURDAY, said "I guess we would be in a crisis if we couldn't move the ball and if we couldn't stop anybody and that's not the case. We've been able to move the ball and we've been able to stop people. We just haven't done it all in the same game yet."
Frank Beamer, 26TH-YEAR HOKIES HEAD COACH, said "Just gotta take care of the details. You know, like I said earlier - Make sure you're in the right gap and taking your responsibility and things will be fine. We've done it before and we can do it again."
Demitri Knowles, 93-YARD KICKOFF RETURN, 6 CATCHES, said "Route running and all they are coming around for me. I'm starting to understand a lot of things; a lot of concepts, so it's starting to click."
