Dale Earnhardt, Jr. to Miss Next Two Races in Chase

Posted:

Charlotte - Dale Earnhardt Jr. will miss the next two Chase races at Charlotte and Kansas after being diagnosed with a concussion.

Earnhardt admitted Thursday he should have gone to a doctor earlier after experiencing concussion symptoms after hitting the wall hard during a tire test at Kansas back in August.  Then after another hit in Sunday's final-lap crash at Talladega, Junior continued to have headaches Monday and Tuesday before seeing neurosurgeon Dr. Jerry Petty.  Petty told Earnhardt he needed to sit out at least the next two races, ending his streak of 461 straight starts.  Junior hopes to return for the Martinsville race two weeks from Sunday.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. said "If I didn't need to go back and get in a race car and get hit again, I needed someone to tell me that because I was going to have a hard time making that decision for myself because I feel perfectly fine.  But I don't want to keep getting hit in the head."

Regan Smith will drive the 88 Chevy in the next two races.
