Danville, VA - A Danville family is getting a lot of unwanted attention thanks to a blogger in California.
For about five years, the blog featured pictures of a deaf, quadriplegic man named David Rose who suddenly passed away last week.
The thing is, the man is actually Hunter Dunn of Danville who is not deaf, and he's alive and well.
Dunn had no idea his picture was being used, and the blog had attracted thousands of fans, including reality star Kim Kardashian.
Many were hurt and confused by the news that the page was a hoax but none more than the Dunn family.
When Linda Dunn returned a phone call to ABC news in New York on Monday afternoon, she had no idea what she was about to hear.
"She said, "Mrs. Dunn, you don't have a clue what I'm talking about do you?', and that was the first. I said 'No', and she said, 'Your son has been a victim of photo fraud,' said Linda Dunn.
She soon learned that her son Hunter's pictures were all over a popular blog called "Dave on Wheels" where the blogger posted inspirational words and jokes under the name David Rose.
After the fictional David suddenly passed away, one fan became suspicious. She realized a quadriplegic couldn't use an iPhone to tweet, for instance, as he'd been doing. Others eventually linked the photos to Hunter.
Now the family has many unanswered questions.
"We want to know why he did this and why it was Hunter. He has been stalking Hunter's Facebook page for a long time and some of his pictures were not on Hunter's Facebook page," said Linda Dunn.
The blogger has since issued an apology and the page has come down, but Linda Dunn says that's not enough.
"His going on these blogs through his alias' sister and saying he didn't mean to hurt Hunter Dunn or hurt the family or upset them..I don't buy that. I don't think he thought it through," she said.
The woman who uncovered the hoax says the blogger behind it all is a man named David Rhodes. Rhodes' whereabouts could not be confirmed at this time, and there is no word on whether any charges will be filed against him.
