Montvale, VA - The company whose tanker overturned on Route 460 in Montvale earlier this year and spilled fuel will have to pay the state $16,000.
The Department of Environmental Quality fined Watts Petroleum for the deadly accident that happened in May. The initial fine was more than $43,000. But Watts agreed to pay $16,000 within 30 days as part of a settlement. The rest of the fine will be waived as long as the company performs additional cleanup and monitors nearby water.
The eastbound lanes of Route 460 were closed after that accident for four months.
