E.C. Glass Choir Headed to Carnegie Hall

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - It takes practice to get to Carnegie Hall, and a Lynchburg singing group did just that.

The E.C. Glass Chamber Choir got an invitation in the mail that they are one of only five schools picked to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. But, there's a catch: the group has to raise $60,000, or they can't go on the trip.

The performance is in April and the choir already has fundraisers lined up. But, the biggest honor is the choir didn't even audition.

"We did not pursue this, and that's why it's different from some. Because you can send in CDs to pursue an invitation like this, but we were nominated so it's really an honor," said Nancy Volk-Stalcup, choral director.

Here's a peek at the upcoming fundraisers:

·         November 5 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.: E. C. Glass Chorus night at McDonald's on Old Forest Road.  The Chamber Choir students will be working to greet guests, serve food and tidy up the dining room.  They will earn a percentage of the profit for the evening.

·         November 10 from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m.: Pancake Breakfast at Applebee's, Old Forest Road.  Chamber Choir students will be greeting guests, serving breakfast and cleaning up to earn a percentage of the ticket sales.  Tickets will be on sale beginning October 23rd for $7 and will cost $8 at the door.

·         December 8 from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.: The Mistletoe Market at City Market. The Chamber students and parents will be selling E. C. Glass note cards, chorus stickers, crafts, jewelry and other items donated by local establishments.
