Lynchburg, VA - The Greater Lynchburg Community Trust called in a hometown hero for its 40th Anniversary Celebration Friday night. Lynchburg native and NASA astronaut Leland Melvin was the guest speaker of the event. He has been a part of NASA since 1989.
Melvin took part in 2 space shuttle missions to the International Space Station.
"I don't think I'll be going up any time soon I'm just helping others get a chance to go up, especially our youth of today," said Leland Melvin.
Friday night's celebration is a culmination of several events that took place during the organization's 40th anniversary year.
