Amherst County Inducts Inaugural Class into Hall of Fame

Amherst, VA - Amherst County inducted its inaugural class into their Sports Hall of Fame Saturday Night.

Sixteen individuals including Jim Bibby, Leroy Floyd, and Ken Dixon were inducted. One youth baseball team from 1979 was also honored.

WSET's very own Dennis Carter was also inducted! He was recognized for 30 years of covering Amherst sports here at WSET.

During his acceptance speech Carter talked about why he enjoys reporting on high school athletics.

"Whenever you can help someone, encourage someone, to strive to do better things, that's what it's all about. That's what keeps my motor running and keeps my job fresh and keeps me happy every day that I'm doing what I do," said Carter.

Individuals who are apart of the inaugural class include: Tom Berry, Jim Bibby, Dennis Carter, Ken Dixon, William Evans, Don Floyd, Leroy Floyd, Connie Franklin, Evelyn Harvey, Clara Jackson, Norman Moses, Jim Procopio, Glenn Ricketts, Gerald Thomas, Barbara Wood and Donnie Wood.

The team that was inducted was the 1979 Dixie Youth Pre-Majors Baseball Team who were World Series Champions.
