Update 3:40 p.m.:
Bedford, VA - A Bedford man charged with beating someone with a baseball bat is now facing a different charge.
Kevin Pillsbury, 42, waived his right to a preliminary hearing after attorneys agreed to a reduced charge of unlawful wounding instead of malicious wounding. That is still a felony.
Deputies said alcohol played a major roll the night Pillsbury is accused of taking a bat and beating a friend sleeping on a couch.
His case was sent on to a grand jury and the Bedford County Commonwealth Attorney's Office believes the case will go before a December grand jury.
Pillsbury remains out of jail on bond.
