Henry Co., VA - Two people have now been charged with killing two people in Henry County last year.
The two victims were found dead in a burning car. The Henry County Sheriff's Office announced the arrests at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.
A 17-month investigation determined that Robert Lawrence and Amanda Massey were shot and their bodies burned inside of a car in Bassett.
These families have been waiting for this day for quite some time.
Sheriff Lane Perry announced that Darius Younger, 21, has been indicted on a total of nine counts including capital murder, robbery and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Kayla Mae Bowman, 20, has been charged with carjacking and concealing evidence in connection with the crime.
It is believed that Younger and Bowman knew the victims but the Sheriff did not go into detail on their relationship.
A motive has not been determined, but Younger is also being charged with one count of robbery.
The Sheriff's Office applauded the efforts of a Special Grand Jury in helping to bring relief to the victims' grieving loved ones.
"We do feel this is a milestone achieved and it was achieved also on behalf. As I said, we still think of the family and what they are going through," said Perry.
"They took from me my only son. They took from his little boy, his daddy. His wife now doesn't have a husband," said Anita Lester, Lawrence's mother.
Both individuals are in custody.
