American Legion Opens New Social Quarters

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - To bring in younger veterans, Lynchburg's American Legion built a brand new social quarters.

The 3,600 square foot space opened in the last week. It's a big upgrade from the old building, which was only 110 square feet.

The $400,000 project started in June. It has a bigger bar, more seating and even a deck. The hope is the facility will help veterans coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan get acclimated to civilian life.

"We figure the social club is a good place for them to come in and be with some of the people that they may know or lean on us for a little bit of help,"said Bob Woods, director of American Legion.

Members are already using the space. The ribbon cutting is November 4.
