Lynchburg Officials Prepare for Possible Effects From Sandy

Lynchburg, VA – Lynchburg city officials say they are preparing for Hurricane Sandy's impact in our area.

In a press release Friday, officials said the Central Virginia area may see heavy rain and high winds, which could result in downed trees and power lines.

Director of Public Works Dave Owen says his department has been checking all of their response equipment and trucks to make sure they are ready.

Officials recommend that residents also be prepared by doing these things:

• Stay tuned to local TV and radio stations for instructions and information.

• Make sure your family members, friends and neighbors are prepared for an extended weather event.

• Have flashlights and extra batteries, a battery-powered and/or hand-crank radio and extra batteries in case of a power outage.

• Have food that does not need refrigeration and one gallon of water per person per day. Other important items include a first aid kit, medications and blankets.
