Amherst Co., VA - Election Day will happen whether we have electricity or not, according to the State Board of Elections.
The board is encouraging local registrars to keep offices open as long as it's safe to do so. They're also accommodating voters who request to vote absentee because they are afraid they might not be able to make it to the polls after Hurricane Sandy.
"It's not a free for all for anyone to just walk in and vote, but they can come in at any time now if they're concerned and we have a code, extreme weather, where they can vote in person, said Kathy Walker, assistant registrar."
There will be generators at polling places on Election Day in case of a power outage. But, that's something they do every Election Day as a precaution.
