Sandy Brings Snow to Wintergreen

Posted:

Update 11 a.m.:

Nelson Co., VA - Things at Wintergreen Resort in Nelson County have calmed down quite a bit from what they were Monday night.

Sandy left behind quite a bit of snow in its path.

Guests at the resort have been coming by all Tuesday morning to take in the scenery, but it was no easy night to get to this point.

Monday night, there was 50 mile per hour winds and gusts as high as almost 70.

Despite the strong winds, there seems to be very little if any damage around here.

But conditions are still not back to normal – there are still some snow flurries that will continue throughout the afternoon and sustained winds between 15 and 30 miles per hour. There is still a wind advisory, but the blizzard warning has been lifted.

Nelson Co., VA - Wintergreen in Nelson County is currently experiencing blizzard conditions, and the worst may be yet to come.

The snow is blowing sideways, pelting people in the face when they are outside. Guests at Wintergreen say the snow began falling around 2 p.m. Monday, and conditions have deteriorated ever since.

50 mile per hour sustained winds have been clocked in the area with gusts as high as 67. Wintergreen management say, after the rough winter last year, they are hoping this is a sign of things to come for the ski season - even though it typically doesn't start until early December.
