Do the Hokies Still Have an ACC Title Shot?

Posted:

BLACKBURG - The Hokies will have offensive linemen Caleb Farris (Rockbridge Co.) and David Wang back from injuries. Coach Frank Beamer explained that they aren't 100 percent but are good enough to play against Miami Thursday night.

What's at Stake?

Both the Hokies and Hurricanes are 4-4 overall. Tech is 2-2 in the Coastal Division. Miami is 3-2.  If you assume Tech will beat Boston College and UVa and lose to Florida State, Thursday against Miami is the pivotal game in the Coastal Division race. Based on the above scenario, a 5-3 team will represent the Coastal Division in the ACC Championship December 1st in Charlotte.

Road Woes

Tech is 0-4 away from Lane Stadium with losses to Pittsburgh 35-17, Cincinnati 27-24, North Carolina 48-34, and Clemson 38-17. Miami is 2-2 at home this season.

Wide Receiver Shake Up

LCA product Demitri Knowles is moving up the depth chart. He is now listed as a co-starter with Dyrell Roberts. Corey Fuller is also now listed as a co-starter with Marcus Davis. Logan Thomas and Beamer said that it's not what Roberts and Davis aren't doing, it's based more on what Knowles and Fuller have accomplished throughout the season.

Short Yards

If Tech loses one more game this season its streak of eight seasons with 10 wins or more would come to an end.

Tech is 2-4 in Miami's Sun Life Stadium with three of those losses in the Orange Bowl.

This is Tech's 25th appearance on ESPN Thursday Night Football. They are 19-5 after winning in the mid-week spotlight twice last season.

Tech is 25-2 record in ACC November games since joining the conference in 2004.

Frank Beamer needs one win to take over 7th place on the all-time wins list. Currently he's tied with Nebraska's Tom Osborne with 255 career wins.

Tech's defense had recorded five sacks in each of the last two games.
