Red Cross Sends Volunteers to WV, Need Donors

Lynchburg, VA - The Historic Virginia Chapter of the Red Cross, which includes everyone Region 2000, says at last check, there are no shelters open in our area.

They sent three volunteers from Lynchburg to Beckley, West Virginia Monday night and they are now joined by four volunteers from the Roanoke Chapter to help with disaster relief.

On a national level, there are 11,000 people staying at 250 shelters around the mid-Atlantic states.

The Red Cross needs money, and they are also asking for blood.

"A lot of blood drives are having to be canceled because of the storm and there's an increased need in blood," said Marianne Ramsey, executive director of the Historic VA Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Red Cross says 10 volunteers in Lynchburg are on standby to travel where they are most needed.

Isabella's Italian Trattoria will donate 15 % of its sales from brunch on Sunday to the Red Cross.
