Crews Put Out Large House Fire in Amherst Co.

Amherst Co., VA - Several crews were on the scene Monday night of a large house fire in Amherst County. The fire happened in the 100 block of Ashby Woods Road.

Firefighters say the fire started around 5:45 p.m. Monday.

Thankfully, no one was hurt as the home owner got out of the house safely, but the home is a total loss. The homeowner does have insurance and is staying at a hotel.

Officials say it took firefighters nearly two hours to have it under control. Several departments were involved in fighting the fire, including Amherst, Nelson, Big Island, and Pedlar.

Public Safety Director Gary Roakes says officials were called to the house fire on Ashby Woods Road at around 5:45 p.m. Monday.

Several fire departments, including  Amherst County and Nelson County, are working to put out the flames.

Officials say there are no injuries, but the home is a total loss.
