Some People Wait in Lines to Vote in Lynchburg

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - On this Election Day, long lines led to a little bit of a wait at some polling places Tuesday morning.

After waiting four years for a presidential election what's another 15, 20, or even 45 minutes.

"It pumps me up, pumps me up," said Darlene Ames .

Ames was one of about 40 people lined up outside the Lynchburg Public Library when the polls opened at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

"I just wanted to make sure I got out here. I too have to go to work early. So I just wanted to be here early to make sure my vote counted," she said.

It was easy to lose count inside the Moose Lodge on Lakeside Drive.

"There was a longer line than I expected, but it went really quick. It was very painless," said Amber Carderelli, a voter. "Everyone seemed to be in good spirits and excited to be out to vote."

Carderelli puts herself in that category...

"I was definitely more excited this year. It's a more exciting race. I think the candidates are a little bit more exciting this year," she said.

The registrar's office has a message to the precincts all over the City of Lynchburg: "Don't call us, we'll call you." They say the precincts have been so busy they've told the precinct captains not to bother calling in with voter turnout numbers."

The Moose Lodge had 1,200 voters come through by 11 a.m. taking about 15 minutes to vote.

That's time well spent for Jordan Haegerich.

"Because it's a very close election, everybody wants to make their vote count," he said.

And everybody wants to get a reward for their patience... that sticker at the end.

Polls close at 7 p.m., which means if you're in the line waiting by 7 p.m., you will be able to vote.

Remember, this year you need to bring an ID.

We have all of the acceptable forms of ID here. You can also find your polling place on our Your Voice, Your Vote page.
