Richmond, VA – There is a ton of Virginia Republican Party leadership in downtown Richmond Tuesday night as crowds await Virginia's Senate race results.

Governor Bob McDonnell, Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling, Republican Party Chairman Pat Mullins and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor are all at the Omni hotel.

Cantor gave his victory speech Tuesday night to an excited crowd. He told them Republican leaders have spent the last four years finding out a way to make sure that the Senate becomes Republican once again when George Allen becomes elected and Mitt Romney wins the White House.

The crowd was very fired up since early exit polling results showed George Allen with a little bit of a lead over Tim Kaine.

But as of 9:45 p.m., the Virginia State Board of Elections was reporting that Allen was leading with 50.6% and Kaine had 49.2% with 71% of precincts reporting.

It's still too early in the night to call the race.

"They embrace the vision of a smaller government, of a responsible government, of a government that understands that it cannot keep spending money it doesn't have" said Cantor about Virginia's voters.

Governor McDonnell's office confirmed that as of 9:30 p.m., Virginia voters were still waiting in line in parts of Chesapeake and Virginia Beach. That's two and a half hours after polls closed here in Virginia.

Our team will be there all night and will bring you the latest at ABC 13 News at 11.
