Atlanta Braves to Keep Single-A Team in Lynchburg

Posted:

Lynchburg - Great news for fans of the defending Carolina League champion Lynchburg Hillcats. Voters in Wilmington Tuesday night TURNED DOWN a referendum authorizing the city to spend 37 million dollars on a new baseball stadium.

That said, the pending deal for Atlanta to buy the Lynchburg team and move it to Wilmington is OFF.  Atlanta and the Lynchburg Baseball Corporation still have two years left on their current baseball deal in the Hill City and the Braves have indicated they now want to stay in Lynchburg for the foreseeable future.  So Single-A baseball stays in Lynchburg and Danville hangs on to the Rookie League Braves.

Lynchburg Hillcats General Manager Paul Sunwall said "I feel good for the community.  For the fans of the Hillcats that we're going to continue to have a full season, high A Carolina League baseball now."
