Jury Recommends Life in Prison in Fenton Terry's Trial

Update 5:10 p.m.:

Danville, VA - The explosive three day murder trial of Fenton Terry has come to a close. A jury found Terry guilty of first degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony for the 2011 murder of Kendra Stokes.

There wasn't a dry eye in court Friday when the verdict was handed down. Emotions ran high on both sides with friends of the defendant having to be escorted from the courtroom.

The family of Kendra Stokes, who was shot eight times following a drug deal involving fake marijuana, was equally emotional as they took the stand to talk about their loss right before the jury made the sentencing recommendation.

It took the jury less than an hour to deliberate on a sentence and ultimately recommended life in prison.

Stokes' mother feels justice has finally been served.

"It's been rough and it's still going to be rough, but some closure helps a lot," said Phyllis Rodgers.

The judge set a date of December 14 for the formal sentencing of Fenton Terry.
