Update: Unattended Cooking Caused House Fire in Lynchburg

Update 4 p.m.:

Lynchburg, VA - Unattended cooking was the cause for a fire in Lynchburg that left about a dozen people without a place to live.

Crews responded to the home on Oakley Avenue about 8 p.m. Sunday.

The fire was contained to the kitchen and two other rooms, but all had smoke damage.

The home is divided into apartments. There were no injuries.

The Red Cross is assisting those who were affected.

Lynchburg, VA - Around a dozen people in Lynchburg will have to find some place else to live after a fire tore through a house that had been divided into apartments.

It happened at 11 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Oakley Avenue.

Crews say the fire broke out on the first floor.

No word on what caused the fire.

The Red Cross is now assisting the residents.
