Lynchburg Officials Meet to Decide What's Next for Heritage HS

Lynchburg, VA - For the first time Monday night, Lynchburg City School officials are meeting with architects to determine the future of Heritage High School.

They need to hash out all the options associated with that price tag of anywhere from $60 to $90 million.

Charlie White, chairman of the school board, says meeting is an important step in determining what will happen with Heritage High School.

At a joint city school board and city council meeting in October, school officials said there were many options for this school: Potentially an entirely new building, perhaps only upgrades with a few ad-ons or maybe at the same site, a different site.

This is the first time school officials will be able to hear what costs from that hefty price tag are associated with the options.

White says those cost estimates are still very preliminary.

"It's from my perspective premature to worry too much about some of those projected cost figures because many of them are based on time frames, and potential inflation rates that may or may not come to fruition," said White.

The meeting at the Lynchburg City Schools office building begins at 5:30 p.m., and we'll have a full report on what is decided on ABC 13 News at 11 p.m.
