Roanoke Co., VA - Police have released the name of the woman killed in the accident involving a school bus and a car Tuesday morning.

Officials say Donna Jeans Divers, 39, was killed. They say Divers was driving a Nissan Altima and lost control of the car, slid sideways and struck the front of the bus.

The passenger in Divers' car, Christopher Duane Carrett, 42, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Neither was wearing a seatbelt.

The bus was traveling to Cave Spring Middle School and have five people on board-the driver, an aid and three special education students. The driver of the bus was Elma Lee Roberts, 69. No one on the bus was seriously injured.

Roanoke County Police are investigating, but they say speed was a factor in the crash.

Roanoke Co., VA - Roanoke County Police say a school bus was involved in a deadly crash Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to the accident on Hunting Hills Drive and found a car that had collided with the front of the school bus.

County officials say one student on the bus suffered minor injuries. The rest of the students and the driver were not hurt.

The female driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. EMS crews took her male passenger to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the bus reports that the car was coming at the bus at a high rate of speed so she stopped, but the car slammed into the bus anyway.

Those who live near the crash site say the crash sounded like an explosion.

"Probably maybe 500-660 yards away as the crow flies and it was loud, and I knew it had to be serious," said Tom Edwards.

According to officials, Hunting Hills Drive will be closed for a while as police investigate.
