Cavs Hope to End 8-Year Skid to the Hokies

Posted:

Charlottesville - Win or lose, Virginia's season will be over on Saturday afternoon but the Cavaliers know this rivalry is always meaningful.

Michael Rocco, VIRGINIA JUNIOR QUARTERBACK, said "The stakes aren't as high but they're just as high for us.  This basically is our bowl game and to go out on a winning note for our seniors, just to win our last game is a big deal for us."

What is at stake? If Virginia Tech wins they'll play in a bowl. If UVa wins, they'll erase the feeling they had following last year's 38-nothing blowout.

Brandon Phelps, VIRGINIA SOPHOMORE SAFETY, said "It's definitely not a good taste in your mouth when your rival team comes into your home stadium and beat you like that.  So we definitely got that in our mind and we're going to use that to push us in practice to keep getting better."

Jake Snyder, VIRGINIA JUNIOR DEFENSIVE END, said "Whether we're 0-11 or 11-0, it's not going to change.  And coming into the season, every season, this is the biggest goal.  We want to beat them."

The last time the Cavaliers beat the Hokies was way back in 2003.  The names associated with that victory, Matt Schaub and Wally Lundy.

Phillip Sims, VIRGINIA SOPHOMORE GUARTERBACK, said "It would be big time for us to be the team that put an end to the streak.  But I think it's more than just a streak that we're getting ready for this week.  We know that we're capable of winning this football game.  We just got to do the things we're capable of doing."

Mike London, VIRGINIA HEAD COACH, said "It's probably safe to say that both quarterbacks will play but to the extent of how much and when and where remains to be seen.  But going into the last game, we will try and utilize every player we have on our roster to help us."
