Lynchburg, VA - It was a somber Tuesday morning at Heritage Elementary where they dedicated a tree in honor of a 9-year-old killed in an car accident.
Kevin Penaloza, who was run over by a car on Timberlake Road in August, would have been in second grade.
At 9:30 a.m., his two sisters, who are also students at the school, helped plant a tree in honor of him next to the new playground.
His classmates and former teachers held a moment of silence and remembered the 9-year-old's short life.
"Kevin was so full of life. He was a fun loving little boy who always had a smile on his face. He walked in every morning smiling. And he was just so full of life," said teacher Collet Green."Whenever I come onto the playground and see the tree, I will think of Kevin in a better place."
