Lynchburg, VA - Many people skip Thanksgiving dinner and sacrifice time with friends and family to stay on the job.
Jeannie O'Brien is one of nine Lynchburg firefighters at Station 1 working through Friday morning.
She still managed to celebrate the holiday with her three kids, just one day early. This is the second year in a row she's had to work on Thanksgiving, but she says it actually brings her closer to co-workers.
"Because everyone tonight is gonna be cooking their own dish. So, it's a great opportunity to fellowship with them," said O'Brien.
Every Thanksgiving firefighters plan a steak and shrimp dinner. Another perk is holiday pay.
