After an article was published in the Los Angeles Times about the Produce Project, Colle commends the efforts of the two entrepreneurs that began the business.
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) November 23, 2012
On November 23, Colle Farmers Market issued a statement about the Produce Project – a small business in Los Angeles that sells items purchased from farmers markets at small “pop-up stands” in L.A.
The article reports that the Produce Project began in July of this year. According to the article published by the Los Angeles Times, “it’s the brainchild of farmers market fans Sarah Delevan and Shaheda Sadhal, both in their early 30s.” In the article, Delevan was quoted saying “We were at the Small Farm Conference and kept hearing that only 4 to 5% of the population shopped at farmers markets.” After that, Delevan got the idea to purchase items from farmers markets, and then sell them at small stands in Los Angeles, in order to provide a more convenient way for people to buy locally-grown produce, reports the article.
According to the article, their process consists of pre-ordering the produce from farmers early in the week. They then sell the produce at their small stands, and the leftover either get donated to charity or are sold to restaurants. The article went on to say that they are currently looking into a permanent home for the Produce Project.
Colle Farmers Market commended the entrepreneurial spirit of Delevan and Sadhal.
“This is a great idea, and it will not only provide a more convenient way for people to get locally-grown produce, but it will also lend support to the community of local farmers in the Los Angeles area. Bringing food from farmers markets directly to consumers is exactly what Colle is about. Once Colle launches consumers across the country will be able to order food from farmers markets directly to their doorstep.”
Colle is an E-Commerce enabled farmers market community that is passionate about sustainable consumption and responsible conservation. The Colle movement is dedicated to connecting natural product vendors, organic farmers and all consumers who live an organic and natural lifestyle with the ultimate goal of creating more sustainable farming and consumerism.
