Schools and universities with sports fields that require a portable alternative for scoring and broadcast functions have found their solution in AAE’s Portable Press Boxes branded as “Donkeys”. And an exclusive benefit with AAE is a coach's ability to custom modify the equipment, with the help of AAE Product Designers, to produce a one-of-a-kind Donkey to suit that school's specific needs.

AAE (Aluminum Athletic Equipment Co.), a leading U.S. manufacturer of sports equipment, announces new custom design options that allow customers to take its base product, a Donkey Portable Press Box, and custom tailor it into the most indispensable item of on-field sports equipment for their sports programs. One of the company’s latest one-of-a-kind Donkeys was crafted for Catholic University and featured extra platform depth and dual entrances for front and rear occupants in order to accommodate their needs for increased capacity.
The foundation of the Catholic University Donkey is AAE’s Donkey-2 model, which features a lockable storage area beneath the main platform. Next, the depth and clearance height of the platform was expanded to incorporate a standing area behind the standard scorers’ bench. This modification not only allows viewers to sit or stand, but also increases the capacity for more scorers and timekeepers. All the while, the unit maintains its versatility and mobility to allow it to be used at multiple sites. Also designed with a fierce image in mind, the unit has a black powder coated aluminum canopy and banner printed with the red and white university logo. Additional customizations include red contoured seats with backrests for more comfortable viewing and black wheel pads with the mascot image.
“We were pleased with the production of the Donkey from start to finish,” stated Jacqui Schuman, Associate Athletic Director at Catholic University. “The designers were accommodating to our requests and helped us customize a product that specifically suits our needs.”
Donkeys serve a variety of on-field functions for an entire athletic program: 1) can be used for multiple sports, 2) serve a storage function, 3) offer a built-in penalty bench, 4) feature elevation for better viewing and broadcasting, and 5) protect occupants from the weather. Donkeys come in four different base models and two packages that include an attached Bird’s Nest Video Tower. Donkeys can be purchased in a variety of configurations, including: with or without storage, with or without canopies, custom banners with your team’s logo, contoured seating, penalty benches, seat cushions, and even tinted plexi-glass paneling.
And with all of the customization options, no two Donkeys are alike. The list of Donkey owners already boasts some leading athletic programs, including: University of Pennsylvania, Georgetown University, Duke University, U.S. Naval Academy, James Madison University, Skidmore College, University of Florida, St. Joseph’s University, University of Michigan, Tennessee Tech University, St. Louis University, University of Maryland, University of Louisville, Cornell University, Glenbard West H.S., Episcopal Academy and many more.
