Danville, VA-- Sunday was a big day for Danville Regional Medical Center. They had the grand opening of their new primary clinic in Mount Hermon earlier this afternoon.
The community was excited to get a look at the new center. Mount Hermon didn't have close access to a primary care physicians before this and that's why Danville Regional Medical Center was so excited to have this center up and running.
The center is over 4,000 square feet. It has eight exam rooms, on-site x-rays and lab testing.
The center did a study a couple of years ago and found that one in three people that came through the emergency room didn't have a primary care physician. DRMC wanted to change that.
"That was devastating to think that a community where we have a health system, there was not enough access, so Danville Regional took it upon ourselves to make sure we ensured access to every community member, " DRMC Chief Medical Officer, Saria Saccocio said.
The clinic will open its doors on December 26th. DRMC also has a goal to make sure they're more patient centered. So this clinic will have extended hours. It will be open from 7AM till 7PM on Monday through Friday, and till noon on Saturdays.
