Virginia Delegates Pushing for Tougher Texting and Driving Laws

Posted:

Richmond, VA - Texting and driving will be a popular issue in the upcoming General Assembly session.

Wednesday morning Virginia delegates Ben Cline and Scott Surovell introduced a texting and driving bill.

If the bill passes, it would make texting and driving a reckless driving offense. Since reckless driving is a Class 1 misdemeanor, you could face a $2,500 fine and/or up to one year in jail.

Under the current law, texting and driving is only a secondary offense. Officers have to have another reason to pull you over before citing you for texting and driving.
