Logan Thomas - Stay or Go the NFL?

Two weeks from Friday Virginia Tech and Rutgers will be in Orlando for the Russell Athletic Bowl. Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN.

Following the game the focus will turn to which Hokie players will enter the NFL Draft. Brookville's Logan Thomas could be one of those guys. "There's still a lot of work to do there's no doubt about it. Consistency is a big thing for me. I wasn't consistent throughout the year and when you go to the next level you've got to be consistent at all times. Experience would be a lot as well so more time to be able to play some games isn't always a bad thing. I don't think I could go in and start an NFL game right now and be fine and come out with a win so I think I need some work to be done," Thomas said following practice on Thursday.

Head coach Frank Beamer said Thomas is definitely an NFL quarterback. "I think you see where your status is with the NFL people and then make the best decision for yourself. I mean he had some good moments. You look at the end of the Georgia Tech game, the Florida State game he went down the field, the Cincinnati game he went down the field."

Thomas did not follow up his highly successful sophomore season with another but offensive coordinator Bryan Stinespring said that shouldn't be an overriding factor to return. "Logan's progressed. Obviously it hasn't shown up in the stats department but a lot of that doesn't have to do with him. It's a whole new group around him but I think he's progressed. I think he understands defenses more. The completion percentage isn't as high as it was last year but it's not like you got a guy that last year was talking about how quickly he could be drafted and now people are talking about if and when and he and I have talked. I think another year would benefit him at the collegiate level but again it's a decision he has to sit down and make," Stinespring said.

Thomas has submitted paperwork to the NFL Draft Advisory Committee. If the feedback indicates he'd be a first round pick Thomas says his decision would quote "be up in the air."
