Staunton River HS Hosts Safe Driving Forum

Posted:

Bedford Co., VA - After several recent accidents in Bedford County, Staunton River High School hosted a safe driving forum Monday.

This was open to parents and students.

School officials, parent-teacher organizations, and local law enforcement came together to discuss ways to keep those kinds of tragedies from happening.

A Virginia Tech transportation Institute professor was on hand too.

The discussion considered changes to Virginia driving laws, namely, graduated licenses, and toughening laws on distracted driving.

Bedford County Sheriff Mike Brown says he hopes parents will drive the message home.

"It's inconvenient, but they need to do it and we're hoping they'll do it, and we're hoping they'll take everything we say very seriously and I think they will, and take it back" he said.

Three Staunton River students have died behind the wheel, in the last two months.
