Lynchburg, VA - A Wind Advisory continues for the Lynchburg, and a High Wind Warning remains in effect today for Bedford County west into the entire Roanoke Valley area this morning.

A few scattered power outages were reported by Appalachian Power Friday Night, but the numbers have climbed in Grayson and Patrick Counties as a second and stronger surge of gusty winds moved in overnight. Gusts have been reported over 60 mph on higher mountain ridges already.

In Lynchburg, gusts to 40 mph are possible today.

In Roanoke and the New River Valley, gusts could top 60-70 mph, where AEP also reports hundreds without power Saturday morning.

The worst of the wind should be over with by later Saturday afternoon, but the morning and early afternoon are expected to remain very windy.

Lynchburg, VA - Powerful winds led to some area power outages. AEP said they prepared crews to deal with them.

A few hundred out in our area because of wind and in the mountains, some snow.

AEP was reporting that more than 100 customers were out in Roanoke city this afternoon, until about 4p.m. when their power was restored.

In Giles County, more than 100 were out of power, and more than 200 customers were in the dark in Wythe County.

According to AEP, crews were on standby since the storm started coming through our area Thursday.

Power outages aren't the only problems the winds caused. They affected holiday travel plans for some as well.

Lynchburg Regional Airport officials said all flights are on time in and out of the airport, they're not expecting that to change into the night.

However, all departing flights from Lynchburg head to Charlotte, and there, we're seeing some flight delays to many northeast airports, namely, Boston, Newark, and La Guardia.

Bottom line, airport officials say it won't hurt to give yourself some extra time, to make absolutely sure you're not late if you're heading home for Christmas.
