Update: Victim Identified in Fatal Accident on Route 220

Update 2:21 p.m.

 

Botetourt Co., VA - We now have the name of the woman killed in that accident Monday morning in Botetourt County.

State police say 35-year-old Leslie Russ of Clifton Forge was driving on Route 220 Monday morning around 7 a.m. when they say she lost control on the bridge.

State police say the bridge was icy at the time.

They say after losing control, Russ crossed into on-coming traffic and hit a tractor trailer carrying logs.

They say that truck then swerved into the opposite lanes and a third vehicle hit the truck.

The two people in that third car have serious but non life threatening injuries and are at Roanoke Memorial.

The truck driver was not hurt.

Update 11:08 a.m. - 

Botetourt Co., VA - State Police are investigating a crash Monday morning in Botetourt County that they say killed one person.

Two cars and a tractor trailer wrecked on a bridge on Route 220.

It happened right above Eagle Rock around seven Monday morning.

220 is a two-lane road along that stretch.

Botetourt County EMS, Fire, Eagle Rock Fire and State Police responded to the scene.

Officials cleaned up the accident and opened the roads back up around 10a.m.

A tractor trailer accident has shut down a portion of Route 220 in Botetourt County.

VDOT says drivers can expect delays.

Both north and southbound lanes are closed near James Street.
