Lynchburg, VA - Rain quickly turned over to wet snow for most of the area this morning, coating the ground in many areas around 4 a.m. this morning in Lynchburg. A lot of the snow melted on contact.

With more moisture on the way this morning, and temperatures near freezing, more wintry mix is likely with some slick spots across the ABC 13 viewing area today.

There is another possibility of winter weather for Saturday.

UPDATE: 7:03 p.m.

Rockbridge Co, VA - Christmas may have been quiet weather wise, but get ready for some wintry weather as early as Tuesday Night.

Throughout the day Tuesday, it's become more clear that the storm system moving in our direction is going to get here faster. Some areas could see a wintry mix before the sun comes up Wednesday.

That's a concern for the National Weather Service, who expanded their Freezing Rain Advisory to include Bedford, Floyd, and Pulaski Counties. Already included were the counties of Roanoke, Amherst, Botetourt, Giles, and  Montgomery from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service also has upgraded Bath, Alleghany, and Rockbridge Counties to Winter Storm Warnings.

There will be several different types of moisture falling Wednesday morning, and it's the ice that poses the most danger.

Be extra careful on bridges and overpasses during the morning commute, when it's expected to be coldest outside. It only takes a small glaze of ice to create problems.

Roanoke, Va - While the sun started our Christmas Day, another storm will be moving into Virginia overnight tonight into Wednesday.

There isn't enough cold air for a snowstorm, but there could be enough cold air for some freezing rain or sleet, especially in the mountains.

The National Weather Service issued a Freezing Rain Advisory for Roanoke, Montgomery, Craig, Giles, Botetourt, and Amherst Counties from 1 a.m. Wednesday through 7 p.m.

An Ice Storm Warning is also in effect for Rockbridge, Bath, and Alleghany Counties as well.

People in the Ice Storm Warning should "prepare for significant accumulations of ice which may result in widespread power outages and create very hazardous travel conditions," the National Weather Service said in an alert Wednesday morning.
