Bowl Coverage: Hokies Practice Christmas Day in Orlando

Posted:

Orlando -  The Hokies got in a Christmas Day practice in Orlando, going for nearly two hours inside the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium.

The coaching staff decided to give the players a chance to get used to the turf they'll play on when they battle Rutgers Friday night.  The Hokies went through another full-pads practice finishing up game prep before scaling back the final two days of work.  A big focus will be Tech's defensive backs.  The Scarlet Knights have some of the best receivers in the Big East and the nation.  They're much bigger than Tech's db's with a significant height advantage.

Frank Beamer, HOKIES HEAD COACH, said "I looked in the roster and he's 6-4, 220.  And I went holy, and they've got a bunch of 'em.  You know they can really run, they're big.  You know that's different from what Rutgers was playing with back when we were in the Big East."

Bud Foster, HOKIES DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR, said "I've really been impressed with their receiving corps.  They're big, they're athletic, they catch the ball well.  They can run after the catch."

Antone Exum, HOKIES R-JUNIOR CORNERBACK, said "I'd rather cover the big guy just because they're physical and so am I.  So you know it plays right into my game."

Bruce Taylor, HOKIES R-SENIOR LINEBACKER - "They're really good on offense what they do.  So we've just got to make sure we come out ready."
