Lynchburg, VA- Friday night, Lynchburg held the awards ceremony for the second annual Lights, Camera, Lynchburg competition.

Contestants submitted videos they shot and edited themselves-- highlighting the Hill City. Out of the 12 videos submitted, 10 won awards. City officials say the contest is a way to draw visitors to our city, and remind residents what Lynchburg has to offer.

The red carpet was rolled out for a special night in downtown Lynchburg.

"It's just a way to create a buzz about the city. To let people know there's a lot of fun things to do in Lynchburg and let people be creative in telling other people why they love this city," said LuAnn Hunt, Coordinator for the Lynchburg Communications and Marketing Department.

And though these videos took patience to create, there was none left in Friday night's packed house. Contestants were eager to get straight to the awards.

In the Top of the Class category for third and fourth graders, first place went to "Mad Math in Lynchburg," produced by Tracy Proffitt's AM class.

In the amateur category, for the second year in a row, Robert Smith won. This time with "Return to Planet Lynchburg."

And now to the biggest prizes of the night-- the professional category. The third place winner was "Lynchburg Grows" by Tiffany Hurd. The second place went to "Meet Me on the Terrace" by Timothy Thomas. And the biggest prize of the night, first place in the professional category, went to Lashonda Brown for her video, "Hill City."

"To show people outside of this area, what makes this area so great. And it's told by people we know, people we recognize, showing those places where we love to go, love to share with our families," said Brown.

And the viewer's choice award went to "Keep Calm and Get Downtown" by Lori Smith and her third grade class.
