Lynchburg Police Identify Person of Interest in Lynda Slocum Murder Case

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA – The Lynchburg Police Department announced Saturday that detectives have identified a person of interest in the murder of Lynda Slocum.

The person of interest is identified as Scott C. Miles, the estranged son-in-law of Lynda Slocum.

Police say Miles is only a person of interest due to some "inconsistencies in a statement that he provided to detectives," according to a statement by Lynchburg police.

There are no suspects at this time, though detectives say they have multiple leads in many directions that they are continuing to investigate. Police describe the case as an ongoing investigation.

Police executed two search warrants on December 27 at Scott C. Miles' residence in Henrico, VA, and at a residence in Hopewell, VA, where Miles had been temporarily residing.

On January 4, 2013 another search warrant was obtained and executed at the same residence in Hopewell, VA.

The second search warrant for the Hopewell residence was obtained after detectives located video surveillance footage in a Lynchburg convenience store and were able to determine the clothes Scott C. Miles was wearing on December 19.

The purpose of the search warrants was to locate any evidence that could implicate Scott C. Miles in the murder of Lynda Slocum or eliminate him as a person of interest in the investigation.

Physical evidence that was collected at the scenes of the search warrants and the Slocum residence has been sent to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science's Western Lab in Roanoke, VA.

The analysis of the evidence that has been submitted is pending at this time.

Anyone with information regarding this crime or the identity of the suspect(s) is asked to the Lynchburg Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at (434)-455-6054 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-798-5900.
