Locals Traveling to D.C. for Presidential Inauguration

Lynchburg, VA - The countdown is now on for the presidential inauguration and many locals are gearing up for their trip to the nation's capitol to witness a piece of history.

Reverend James Coleman was at President Obama's inauguration four years ago.

"It was cold and it was freezing but we persevered. We were out there with all the stuff, four or five layers of clothes on," said Coleman.

He says it was worth it.

"We were so excited because this was a chance to see something that we thought would never happen in our lifetime," said Coleman.

This time around, he plans to attend again. He is going to the Virginia Ball on Sunday and the Inauguration on Monday.

"It's an opportunity for me to reflect on the work of our ancestors, of this nation. Not only has the American dream been fulfilled, Big Mama's dream has been fulfilled," said Coleman.

He is bringing several people with him, among them, Brian Hampton, 24.

"It affords me the opportunity to really be able to experience something that my ancestors could not experience," said Brian Hampton, Senior VUL.

Hampton says he is excited to partake in a piece of history.

"I believe it's going to be a very interesting experience and an experience I am looking forward to," said Hampton.

Dozens of other locals plan to go, too. Tyeast Blanding says she has heard so much feedback, she ordered a bus.

"A whole lot of people said they really want to go," said Tyeast Blanding.

She and her church, First Baptist Church of South Lynchburg, went to work organizing transportation for anyone who wants to attend.

"If we need to, we'll get another bus," said Blanding. "The more the merrier."

If you're interested in going to the inauguration but do not want to drive, there are still seats available on the bus.

Tickets are $45 per person. Each tickets gets you a ride to the nation's capital and back. The fee does not include any other expenses on the trip.

The bus leaves at next Monday at 1:30 a.m.
