Lynchburg - Today's ABC 13 high school Team of the Week is the V.E.S. boys basketball team.
The Bishops improved to 5-and-3 on the season Tuesday night, pulling out a one-point overtime win at home over cross-town private school rival L.C.A. East Carolina-bound Caleb White led V.E.S. with a game-high 26 points with junior Anthony Swan adding 16. The Bishops had to rally from 13 down after the first quarter to draw even and eventually squeeze out the win, a tight victory they feel will benefit them greatly.
Caleb White, EAST CAROLINA-BOUND SENIOR - "It gave us late-game experience, you know, coming down to the last couple of minutes. That's good when the post-season comes and the state tournament comes, you already have that experience under your belt so, you know, you won't panic in those tough times, in crunch time."
Anthony Swan, V.E.S. JUNIOR SHOOTING GUARD - "You know Coach Staples constantly tells us about the importance of winning and the importance of, you know, staying together and how it's all one. We actually look to the proverb where iron sharpens iron and we look to sharpen each other on the court, on and off."
