Danville Driving Instructor Gives Bad Weather Tips

Posted:

Danville, VA -- As the snow starts sticking, it is important to know what to do if you have to get behind the wheel.

We spoke with driving instructor, Ricky Fugate, who says the best thing to do is stay inside, if possible. But if you have to drive, he suggests giving yourself more time to get where you need to go. Also, make sure you allow extra room between you and the car in front of you. Also, make sure to drive slowly.

Fugate says driving in snow can be dangerous, but driving in ice is even worse. Our own Sean Sublette says the temperatures will drop Thursday night, creating slick conditions by daybreak. If you do hit a slick spot, Fugate has some tips.

"Please don't panic. Lift your foot off the accelerator, do not slam on the brakes, lift your foot and continue to look in the direction you want to go," said Fugate.

Also, go slowly across a bridge because they ice quickly too. Just be very careful.
