Complete Streets Workshop Held in Lynchburg

Lynchburg, VA - The Hill City may be on its way to making its streets safer for everyone.

The Lynchburg Health Department and Central Virginia Health District held the first-ever "Complete Streets" workshop Thursday. The goal is to make city streets more conducive to not only driving, but biking, riding the bus and walking.

City council members and citizens were there sharing their ideas for street improvement. Later, they set out on foot to assess the streets as a group.

"It's creating a transportation system for people of all abilities and ages can travel by the mode that they choose, safely, comfortably, efficiently," said Carol Kachadorrian, instructor, APBP.

The Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals gave the health department a grant to fund the workshops. The city has not adopted the complete street plan yet, but say it is under consideration.
