State Trooper to be Released from Hospital Monday After Being Hit by Car Saturday

Roanoke, VA - Senior State Trooper J.A. Jones, who was seriously injured after being intentionally hit by a car over the weekend, will be released from Roanoke Memorial Hospital Monday.

The incident took place in Pulaski County Saturday at approximately 6:44 a.m. when Trooper Jones stopped to check on a pedestrian walking in the road on Route 100. When the trooper approached the pedestrian to offer assistance, the man became combative and a struggle between the two ensued. The male subject then ran towards a blue car and fled the scene.

Within seconds, the Trooper Jones spotted nearby a red car that also began leaving the scene. As Jones gestured for the red car to stop, the vehicle turned towards the trooper and intentionally drove at him at a high rate of speed.

Jones tried to jump out of the way but was struck by the car and knocked to the ground. The red car then fled the scene.

State police have received numerous tips concerning the incident and thank the public for their continuing help and information.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

No arrests have been made at this time. 

State police are asking the public to call in with any information they may have about the suspect vehicles involved.
