2012 Preliminary Danville Crime Statistics Show Decrease in Crime

Danville, VA-- The group Coalition for a Safe Danville had their first meeting of the year on Thursday.

City Manager Joe King addressed the blighted housing issue in Danville, and discussed ways the city is tackling it.

Danville Police also revealed the preliminary 2012 crime statistics. They show that crime in Danville decreased slightly, with 35 less crimes than last year.

They were especially happy to report that Danville had three homicides last year, and that hasn't happened since 1990.

"We've focused on the neighborhoods that have the most crime and we've also placed the street crimes unit in those areas, and I think that has made a big difference," Danville Chief of Police, Philip Broadfoot said.

The crime stats are only preliminary. The final report will be released in March.
