Lynchburg and Randolph Lose in Saturday ODAC Action

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Randolph-Macon College men's basketball team started the second half strong to open a large lead and held on to defeat Lynchburg College 91-77 Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.

The Yellow Jackets closed out the first half with a three-pointer from Lamar Giggetts to take a 38-30 lead at intermission. Hornet senior center Austin Chillemi opened the second half with a layup, but a 13-2 R-MC run over the next four minutes put the visitors up 17. The Hornets cut the lead to nine (76-67) with four minutes left after a pair of three pointers from senior forward Michael Wims, but could get no closer.

Junior forward Manny Hernandez scored a team-high 20 points for LC, hitting 11 of his 13 free throws. Wims tallied 13 points, nailing all three of his attempts from beyond the three-point line, and junior guard Andrew Simmons had 10 points and three assists. Chillemi had nine points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Junior forward Gary Boone II was 4-of-4 from the floor and finished with nine points.

Andre Simon posted game-highs of 23 points and 13 rebounds for Randolph-Macon (13-8/8-4), and added five assists. Giggetts tallied 17 points and six assists, while Connor Sullivan had 16 points. Marcus Badger and Joe Hassell each had 11 points.

The Hornets shot 40 percent for the game (25-62), but the R-MC defense limited LC to just 33 percent shooting (13-39) in the second half. The Yellow Jackets hit 50 percent (29-58) of their shots, including a 54 percent mark (14-26) after intermission. R-MC out-rebounded LC 44-30.

The Hornets (16-5/7-5 ODAC) look to return to the win column Wednesday evening, with a home game at 7 p.m. against Roanoke College.

LYNCHBURG - Adam Burroughs, a 2010 first team ABC 13 All-Full Court Press player from Northside H.S., drained a three at the buzzer to give Eastern Mennonite a one-point win 76-75 over Randolph.

The Wildcats were led by Chris Battaglia's 24 points. Colton Hunt was held to 17 points.

Bridgewater scored with one second left to beat Roanoke 75-73.
