When Jenks High School's head baseball coach Dennis Keeley came over from Sand Springs, he brought a fundraising idea with him. The concept would be themed along the lines of the popular network TV show "American Idol."

Jenks calls theirs "Trojan Idol." And it must be doing well because it's become an annual event.

For the fifth year now, Jenks High School's baseball team puts on this musical event, pitting groups of Jenks players in a song and dance competition. And organizers say "Trojan Idol" has done well in raising money for the team.

"We've raised an excess of five-thousand-dollars [since its inception]," said Mary Maxey.

"Celebrity" judges are selected to decide on the night's best performances in a number of different categories, but clearly the real winner is the school's baseball program. Head coach Dennis Keeley believes, "It's a lot of fun and I think everybody in the audience really gets a kick out of it."

"The kids might not enjoy it at first but they talk about every year so it's been a huge success."
