In December I set up a Lynchburg Edition of the Amazing Race for my friends and future fiance. The Race was set up with clues all over Lynchburg and teams competing to be the first to find all the clues. I grew up in Lynchburg and so I took some of my favorite places around the city and began making clues about them.
The only people that were in on my true plans were my parents and my brother.
On the day of the Race, my brother and I went all around town and planted the clues. All three teams would start out a Nicole's house where I would give them the first clue to a certain location. They would then have to figure out the clue in order to find the next place.
The last stop was the Old City Cemetery where I would propose. It was a place we frequented.
The second to last clue had all three teams stopping by my parents' house and each team had to sing a Christmas carol in order to get the next clue. I had it set up that only Nicole's team would receive the last clue that would send them to the Cemetery.
The other two teams would open their clue and find an explanation of what was about to happen.
Nicole's team arrived first, they sang, and then were on their way to the Cemetery. I was standing in the gazebo as the girls came down the main drive at the Cemetery. I promptly told them that they were the first team to arrive and that they had won. Seeing that it was Christmas time I then presented each of them with a gift bag. I had Aly (her roommate) open hers first and inside was a dollar bill along with instructions that she was to walk away and go get my iPad to record what was about to happen. The second bag was opened by my sister who had a sock and it had similar instructions. The last bag was Nicole's and I told her to close her eyes.
I spread rose pedals around. I gave her a speech and then she opened her bag and it had the box with the ring inside. I then got down on one knee and asked her be my wife!
